Lebanon

Lebanon is the only country in the Middle East where there is almost an equal number of Muslims and Christians. Lebanon is historically defined from the mountains, which have provided for protection for the local population. Beirut, it is the capital of Lebanon. However, in the bible Lebanon called “the land of milk and honey”. “Paris of the east”, is the nickname for Beirut. Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Cyprus and Israel are the five countries which surround of Lebanon.
The main circumstances in 1943- 1948 that contributed to increased tensions between Muslims and Christians was Lebanon gained independence from France in 1943. The tensions reached a peak because members of a radical Christian group, the Phalange, attacked and killed a bus full of Palestinians in downtown Beirut and that was in 1975. There was result of the tensions which is revenge killing followed, and violence began to spiral out of control. In 1982 the Israeli army invaded the city with the aim of removing the Palestinian Liberation Organization ( PLO ) and Lebanon got a peace deal reached in 1989. There were many of the human and economic costs of the conflict one of costs were between 150000-200000 people died, around 300000 were wounded, nearly a quarter of the population left the country, and for years Beirut’s economy was paralyzed.

There are many signs of social and economic recovery in Beirut. First one is teenager girls on roller blades share the wide walk dressed in black dresses, robes, coats and scares. Also the businessmen can open his shop and where with out being afraid of any crisis. One more of sign is money which is pouring in from businessman in the Gulf states. However, there are also some current crisis in the country. The people who are living there can not rebuilding the country because after war most of the businessman want out. Another crisis is the government can’t be control the population and also they are divide into two groups.
